One out of every seven minutes of media consumption today takes place via mobile devices, according to new research from IPG's Universal McCann and AOL. Mobile Video audiences stay tuned in longer than online video viewers. According to Nielsen Mobile**,

  • Mobile video viewing continues to grow, with 15.7 million Americans viewing video on their mobile phones in Q309, an increase of +53% versus last year.
  • Mobile users of all ages spend time watching video from their mobile phone: Of the 15.7 million people subscribing to mobile video in the U.S., older mobile video users age 45-54 watch 3 hours of mobile video a month.
  • Teens age 13-17 continue to be avid viewers of mobile video; they report viewing an average of 7 hours of video on their mobile phones each month.

Additionally, Cisco is forecasting mobile traffic will grow 66x from 2008-2013 to 2.5 million terabytes/mo. the primary driver of that growth is video, which it believes will account for 64% of mobile traffic in '13, more than triple data's 19% share. Cisco believes that most of the mobile video consumed will be on-demand.
